We Like Previn

A jazz tribute to André Previn

With 'We Like Previn',  musicians from the Swedish jazz elite have created an album with great reviews in both Swedish and international jazz media. The album contains 14 compositions, including both jazz and samples from Previn musical and film production. And also a song by the producer himself, Guiding Light.

The project was initiated partly in response to Andre Previn's 80th birthday April 6, 2009, and partly to reflect Previn genius in jazz, where his work to some extent has been overlooked by the rest of his diverse musical career.

The music is conducted by pianist Jan Lundgren, along with bassist Hans Backenroth, guitarist Jacob Fischer, drummer John Löfcrantz Ramsay and singer Vivian Buczek, under the name The Swedish Connection, now Artistry Jazz Group. A solid cover of a booklet of the composer, the music and the musicians is enlosed with the album.

André Previn - one of the most comprehensive

André Previn can for sure be described as one of the most comprehensive musicians of the history, with significant qualifications as jazz pianist, composer and arranger of film score and later on even as classic conductor, pianist and composer of world class. And with a rare combination of laid back improvisation and faultless technique. In 1938 the family left Berlin, first for Paris and soon thereafter for the USA. While still studying, André Previn started working as a jazz pianist, arranger and artist. Among others, he set up a trio with Shelly Manne and Leroy Vinnegar, and one of his greatest successes was an album with jazz interpretations of My Fair Lady. In the beginning of the 1960s, Previn began switching to full-time classic conducting. Except from some meetings with Ella Fitzgerald, among others, Previn stayed away from the jazz for 27 years. But in March 1989, he returned to jazz with a trio album together with Ray Brown and Joe Pass, and as a studio jazz pianist for several record labels. Still today, André Previn is highly productive as a composer, arranger, conductor, piano soloist, chamber musician and jazz pianist.
